Landform, Plants, & Structure

Design Studio 101.  This is the palette of a landscape architect to create a space.  I like this picture because all three are used to create an entrance to the back of this garden.  The garages frame two sides while the arbor and screen catch the other two.  Planting softens the structures and fill in the space.  The large stone threshold lets you know your are enter a special place. Finally the maple tree provides a high filtered ceiling to the space.  The patio is bluestone ‘lilac,’ the edges are all beveled off and everything was trimmed to fit tight.  We did all the hardscape and the homeowner made it all come together with the planting.
